I have always walked at night, sometimes to calm a restless baby and sometimes to calm myself, sometimes just to walk the dog. In the dark streets I am always struck by the loneliness built into our culture. No one is out, shades are drawn. The intense complexity of family life is hushed and hidden. Neighborhoods that expose one face by day draw into themselves, revealing a different face at night. These paintings are about the choice of isolation.
